We believe interior design should be a sensory experience. A space should appear warm and luxurious but the smell, touch and sound of space should mirror that sense of luxury too.
Jessie Black is the luxury lifestyle brand’s principal designer, founder and namesake. Her global background is reflected in the array of merchandise carried in the boutique as well as the refined yet characterful interiors she conjures into existence for clients. She was raised in Sydney and has also called Paris, London, New York and Monte Carlo home. Jessie has spent much of her time working with the finest textile and cashmere mills throughout Italy and France to source the boutique’s sumptuous cashmere and her signature thousand thread-count Egyptian cotton bed sheets.
In addition to her years working in creative and design industries in the US, UK and Europe, Jessie has an MBA with a specialization in Luxury Goods sector from The International University of Monaco and currently studies Design Theory at Stanford University
As a teenager “My Godmother used to take me to the markets of Provence and the high-end stores in Paris,” she recalls. “We would spend hours adoring the detailing and craftsmanship on some of the world’s finest textiles.” Jessie’s appreciation for textiles continues to this day, as evident in the linen and cashmere that populate her store shelves as well as her design portfolio. You can usually find her in the boutique’s atelier, shadowed by her dog Max. Jessie travels the globe as often as possible to source fresh design concepts, artisans, artists and antiques.
Carla Vinhas has lived in San Francisco for five years now, she was born and raised in Paris. (Which explains why, on any given day, you might hear French music emanating from the boutique’s vintage gramophone.). After completing her bachelor’s degree at Harvard University, she spent time in the living in the U.K., Norway and Switzerland. Along the way, Carla has worked for luxury design houses such as Hermés, Chanel and Christian Lacroix.
She believes in creating calm, elegant, yet comfortable interiors. Her ideas and experiences are collected from her experiences living abroad. Carla shares Jessie’s affinity for textiles and textures. “I like light and airy spaces with an emphasis on natural textiles—linen, wool and cashmere—and raw materials—wood, stone and marble,” she explains. “I respect long-term durability versus disposability.”
Carla returns to Paris at least once a year; while there, she loves to wander and explore Le Marais, especially its bakeries. “A croissant a day keeps the doctor away,” she quips.
